Gardening is a relaxing and fun hobby for many people around the world, but doing it organically is even more rewarding. Newcomers to organic gardening, however, can easily find themselves overwhelmed. How can you become a better organic gardener? Well, a great place to start is with the following helpful article!
To be as efficient as possible in the garden, always have your tools handy. Use a large bucket, or wear rugged pants with several pockets. Keep gloves, small pruning shears, a trowel and any other tools handy in order to increase the quickness of the work that goes into your garden.
Organize your gardening so that you can work efficiently. You do not have the time to spend an hour looking for each tool you need. Prepare all the tools you need before you go out to work on your garden, and put them away nicely when you are done. You can keep your garden tools in a tool belt, or in your pockets. Another good idea is to keep them all in a bucket that you carry around with you.
Pine Needles
Pine can make a great mulch. There are some plants that thrive in acidic soil. When you have any plants like this, it’s very simple to just collect pine needles to use in your bed. Cover soil beds with a few inches of pine needles, and they will disperse acidity to the soil below as they decompose.
Leave plenty of growing space when you plant your garden. It can be easy to underestimate how much space your plants will need once they begin growing. You will need to provide this space to provide ample room and because you need air circulating to your garden. Plan your garden accordingly, and make sure the right distance is between the seeds.
Use an aged laundry basket when you want to collect your produce. This laundry basket can be used as a type of strainer for all your produce. Rinse the product off whilst it’s in the basket so that any extra water can strain through the laundry basket’s holes.
Do you want to kill weeds in a natural way? You will need many layers of newspapers. Like any other plant, weeds need to be exposed to the sun. When you pile up layers of newspapers right on top of the weeds, they will suffocate and die. Newspapers also decompose fairly quickly, and mix with your garden soil. You can add mulch on top for aesthetic reasons.
Treated Wood
A diversity of materials can be used to construct raised beds. These include brick, stone, and wood. Choose a wood that is resistant to rot and does not contain any chemicals. Some good woods are locust, cedar and cypress. Treated wood has chemicals that can be harmful to a vegetable garden. If you must use treated wood, create a barrier, such as with plastic sheet.
Now you should be able to see why organic gardening can be such an enjoyable activity to participate in. It is very relaxing and fun to work in a beautiful garden. With these tips in mind, you can start growing like a pro!
